4:00 PM - 6:30 PM Victoria University: Zone Substation Simulator Centre

Dr. Akhtar Kalam, Discipline Leader, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Victoria University
With smart gird technologies rapidly advancing, there is a need to reflect this shift in the technical capacity of SCADA systems. Victoria University has already begun their movement towards integrating smart grid technology into Australia’s electricity supply market. The development of the Zone Substation Simulator Centre can simulate 66 to 22 KV substation environments, controls and protection schemes using the IEC 61850 technology standard.

What will the Site Tour cover?

  • How the Zone Substation Simulation Centre can provide knowledge on the concept and applications of IEC 61850 to improve interoperability
  • The key features of the Centre such as: remote SCADA control centre, RTU systems, unit protection, distribution and sub transmission bus protection and the Ethernet infrastructure
  • How the Zone Substation Simulation Centre will successfully introduce the next generation of engineers in a bid to prepare for substation design and automation
